Ready for towing peace of mind?

BUILT-IN SCALE

A built-in scale to measure both tongue weight to ensure 10-15% of GTW and distributed tongue weight to truly give you a distributed towing system.

LIVE ADJUSTMENT SYSTEM

A live adjustment system built into the head assembly with an internal pivot point that eliminates the need to remove the head assembly for re-adjustment resulting in a much easier and quicker installation, anytime adjustment, not to mention it saves a significant amount of time.

EASY HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT

Easy height adjustment using our dual pin key lock assembly providing safety from theft and ease with 1” hole increments to provide more accurate height adjustment compared to competitors with 1.75” hole increments.

EXTENDED SLEEK DESIGN

An extended sleek design that generally gives you the ability to lower your tailgate or open your liftgate without the trailer tongue/jack interfering.

what is GVWR

TRUE DISTRIBUTION

Truly distributes the tongue weight of the trailer between the back axle of the tow vehicle, and the axle(s) of the trailer and returns the lost weight off the front axle to provide the customer a safer and smoother ride.

ANTI-SWAY HITCH

Provides anti-sway friction areas that help to reduce sway caused by wind or passing vehicles. The anti-sway friction areas reside in the sway bar connection points in the head assembly and the trailer bracket connection points. The hitch head assembly, spring arms and trailer brackets are all vital components to aid in reducing trailer sway.

DTW TOOL

DTW (Distributed Tongue Weight) tool application for smartphones (android and IOS) or available on our website to set up the highly accurate distributed system by outputting a DTW that the Weigh Safe gauge on the hitch will read when distributed correctly.

Yes, the largest A-Frame that our weight distribution hitch can fit on is a 2.5″x6″ frame, so as long as it is that size or smaller, it should work!

Add it to your Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR); our calculations take the weight of the hitch into account and distributes it.

This hitch ships in four separate boxes and sometimes they are delivered at different times or on different days. Please wait at least 48 hours from receiving your initial package before contacting our customer support team about a missing box. Watch Video

Yes you can back up with your hitch attached as long as you’re not backing up a steep driveway or anything that is a significant change in grade.

Yes, you can. The purpose of the weight distribution hitch is to return any weight that is lost off the front axle of the tow vehicle when the trailer is attached. It is not meant to take away all the squat in the truck. The tongue weight of the trailer still exists and is added to the back axle causing compression on the springs. If you would like to reduce that remaining squat in the back of your tow vehicle, feel free to use airbags or any other anti-squat system. Just make sure you check that your DTW (Distributed Tongue Weight) is correct for every tow with or without airbags.

If the lead screw is not turning, there are a few things you can check to solve the problem.

  1. Make sure the lead screw is not bottomed out. The lower the pivot system only has so much travel and will bottom out between the interval gauge shield and the top of the pivot system. If this is the case, raise the height of your trailer bracket platforms and again, try to adjust the screw until you reach your DTW.
  2. Has your lead screw been serviced with grease lately? Make sure to use the grease ports and bi-annually (if not more frequently) pump in grease to keep the frictional surfaces lubricated. Without lubrication, it can increase friction and wear, keeping the lead screw from turning.
  3. Large amounts of torque may be needed. With large trailers reaching the maximum ratings on the hitch, sometimes the loads require large amounts of torque to adjust the lead screw. If this is the case, raise the tongue jack to lower the forces on the lead screw. Adjust the lead screw in or out, depending on what is needed, and put the tongue jack down periodically to check if you have reached the required DTW.

The purpose of the weight distribution hitch is to return any weight that is lost off the front of the axle of the tow vehicle when the trailer is attached. It is not meant to take away all the squat in the truck. The tongue weight of the trailer still exists and is added to the back of the axle causing compression on the springs. If you would like to reduce that remaining squat in the back of your tow vehicle, feel free to use the air bags or any other anti-squat system. Just make sure you check that your DTW (distributed tongue weight) is correct for every tow with or without airbags.

If you feel that your truck is still squatting more than normal even after you have adjusted the True Tow hitch to read the DTW that you determined from the DTW tool, double check the following:

  1. Check your tow vehicle ratings and make sure you are not towing over the weight capacity.
  2. Check that all measurements and the tongue weight without the spring arms attached were inputted correctly into the DTW tool to ensure you have the correct DTW.

The DTW should be about 2-3 times more than the original tongue weight of the trailer. If this is not so, something must be wrong. Please contact our Customer Support team so we can look further into resolving this for you.

If you see any clear, odorless oil leaking from the hitch, please check all hydraulic plugs, gauges, and the piston under the towball to see if one of these areas are leaking. If so, please contact our Customer Support team to get your True Tow hitch repaired under warranty.

If you notice the gauge is not measuring tongue weight, there could be a couple causes for this. Please check the following prior to calling our Customer Support team:

  1. Try jouncing(stepping on or kicking) the front of the trailer on the trailer frame. Doing this takes away any resultant friction keeping the gauge from working correctly.
  2. Your tongue weight is less than 200lbs. If your trailer tongue is less than 200lbs., the gauge has a hard time reading this low of a tongue weight. Please increase your tongue weight to be over 300 lbs. to confirm your gauge is in fact not working.
  3. Hydraulic oil is leaking. Without hydraulic fluid, the gauge will not read weight. If you see any clear odorless oil leaking from the hitch, please check all hydraulic plugs, gauges, and the piston under the tow ball to see if one of these is leaking. If so, please contact our Customer Support team to get your True Tow hitch repaired under warranty.

The True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch is painted with a high-strength powder coating for rust and corrosion resistance. Through normal ware, especially in high-friction points of the hitch, the paint could rub or chip off. If you are seeing this, you could use a flat back primer and paint to touch up these areas to reduce rust and corrosion, which will extend the lifespan of your hitch.

NO. The True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch has all of it’s own parts and components made specifically for the True Tow Hitch. For example, even if you have our Steel Weigh Safe Adjustable Ball Mount, you cannot use that draw bar with your True Tow WD system. Only the draw bar that came with the True Tow is compatible with its components as it has a reinforcement piece made specifically for the True Tow Hitch.
However, you can use your Steel Weigh Safe Adjustable Ball Mount Slider Rack on your True Tow Weight Distribution draw bar!

NO! Our True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch is made of steel and is not compatible with any of our aluminum components.

If you have a particularly specific or tough question, you may even end up talking with our Chief Engineer – he’s pretty cool.

Our Weigh Safe and 180 Drop Hitches are available in a 4”, 6”, 8”, and 10” drop/rise. As far as specifications go, we recommend at least 11” of clearance from the bottom of your installed ball mount. Here is how you can determine which size drop will work best for your vehicle:

  1. Measure from the top of your tow vehicle to the ground (make sure you are on relatively level ground)
  2. Subtract drop height (all of our drops measure 3” longer than the listed drop length; 4” drop = 7” in total, 6” = 9” and so on)
  3. The total that you get after subtracting the drop is the amount of clearance you would have with that particular drop

22″ (top of receiver to ground) – 11″ (8″ drop + extra 3″) = 11″ (of clearance)

* It is important to know that this is a generic recommendation and there are other factors that could impact the distance from the bottom of the hitch to the ground.

Check out our Weigh Safe product video for more information about the hitch and how to use it.
