The Steel Weigh Safe Pintle Hitch is the one and only pintle hitch with a built-in scale that signals you to adjust your load before you hit the road, resulting in a much safer and enjoyable towing experience. Before this ball mount, gauging your trailer’s tongue weight was a hassle. You had to rely on inefficient bathroom scales, make a trip to the weigh station, or purchase a separate tongue weight scale. But with the Weigh Safe’s built-in scale, measuring your tongue weight is as easy as coupling your trailer to your ball mount. Simply hook-up your trailer to the Steel Weigh Safe Pintle Hitch just as you would any other ball mount. The weight of your trailer will push down on the pintle attachment, which in turn pushes down on an internal hydraulic piston that sits on a bed of oil. When the piston drops into the oil, the pressure reading is sent out to the scale.

The Steel Weigh Safe Pintle Hitch has a pintle attachment that is constructed of high strength carbon steel. The bottom portion is chrome-plated and the latch is a matte black powder coating for corrosion resistance. It has an easy latching system to lock/unlock with a safety clip. This pintle attachment is ONLY compatible with our STEEL Weigh Safe Adjustable Drop Hitch. This attachment was designed to be used in ONLY the drop position.

THE PINTLE ATTACHMENT INCLUDED WITH THIS HITCH IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH OUR ALUMINUM WEIGH SAFE DROP HITCH AND WAS DESIGNED TO BE USED WITH OUR STEEL PRODUCT LINE ONLY. IF USED WITH ANY OF OUR ALUMINUM PRODUCTS, IT WILL VOID WARRANTY. PLEASE NOTE, WARRANTY WILL ALSO BE VOIDED IF THE PINTLE ATTACHMENT IS USED WITH YOUR HITCH IN THE RISE POSITION.

    Maintenance:

    • Keep your trailer hitch clean and wash regularly with soap & water.
    • Make sure dust lock covers are always secured on all locks. For replacement dust covers, click here.

    Measuring Tongue Weight:

    • You must have your truck and trailer on flat, level ground in order for your tongue weight gauge to read accurately. Being on a slant or grade changes will compromise the gauge accuracy.
    • After loading the trailer coupler onto the tow ball, move the trailer frame back and forth with your foot to reduce friction. The tow ball and trailer coupler must be jounced to reduce friction and get an accurate tongue weight reading.
    • The Weigh Safe Gauge accuracy is +/- 1.25% over the full range of the scale, which is +/- 50 LBS accuracy.

    Hitch Height Setting:

    • For the best towing performance, adjust the height of your hitch to make the towed trailer level to the ground. To accomplish this, use a level (if on level ground) or measure the distance to the ground on the front and rear of the trailer frame and adjust the coupler height in order to make both measurements the same.
    • For tandem “independent” trailer axles, the height of your hitch does affect your tongue weight. If your trailer coupler is too high, the tongue weight increases and your back axle tires will receive more weight. If your trailer coupler is too low, your tongue weight will read less and increase the weight on the front axle tires. Without being level, your tongue weight will not read true and your tires will wear faster and unevenly.
